Fire & Water - Cleanup & Restoration

Smoke Damage Shouldn’t Last Forever. SERVPRO of Norfolk Remediates It “Like it never even happened.”

Homes that have working smoke detectors experience fewer fire fatalities than other homes. At SERVPRO® of Norfolk, we remind you that we have substantial experience in the restoration of property from fire and smoke damage, but that family members are not restorable. Keep batteries in the smoke detectors; stay safe. If something does happen, call us any time of any day.

SERVPRO of Norfolk                                                          402-370-2460

The United States Fire Administration (USFA) wants people to remember that working (emphasis is ours) smoke detectors save lives. Too many people remember the old-fashioned smoke detectors that blared easily and often, so they remove the batteries from the much-improved smoke detectors and never replace them. Please don’t do that.

If a fire does rip through all or part of your home, our highly-trained franchise professionals at SERVPRO of Norfolk are available 24/7/52. Call us as soon as the firefighters tell you that it is safe to go back into the house.

Even Small Fires May Leave Behind Substantial Damage

The immediate damage from residential fires is obvious: charred belongings, stained walls, ceilings, and appliances, and often a heavy haze of smoke. There may also be strong odors and excess water, perhaps with water damage that is becoming obvious.

The water may have come from the firefighters, of course, but it also may have come from burst pipes or toilets, or other appliances.

Other damage may be less obvious. Smoke and soot from protein, while odorous and greasy, are invisible. Since most residential fires start in the kitchen, it is important to check for protein residue, regardless of what started the fire.

Further, because the smoke and soot particles travel with air currents and in certain patterns, homeowners may not see them in parts of the house far from the original flames. Even if the original fire was too small and contained to require firefighters on scene, there may be damage that is too much to clean on your own.

At SERVPRO of Norfolk, we have extensive training in handling all aspects of fire damage, including:

  • Cleaning and disinfection
  • Restoration
  • Smoke, soot, water damage
  • Mold or other microbial growth
  • Odors

Check your insurance policy. Many companies require that homeowners hire professional companies for post-fire property restoration.

We are here to make the damage “Like it never even happened.”

Trivia

In the Middle Ages, men and women filled out the sleeves and shoulders of their clothing with bombasts, a material that added volume to the clothing, like shoulder pads on steroids.
